Why Is It That Modafinil Is Not Working For You? 3 Good Reasons

Nootropic supplements have burst onto the scene over the last decade with many new supplements and brands emerging. For some prescription nootropics like Modafinil, a wide-spanning list of approvals means more exposure and hence widespread popularity. Modafinil has been studied and tested to offer considerable cognitive performance without placebo effects. However, it was originally developed to treat various medical conditions that cause high fatigue levels during the day. Like with any other nootropic product, the most commonly asked question is, does Modafinil work for everybody? Before we can answer this question, let’s first delve into a few more details concerning this nootropic.

What is Modafinil?

First off, Modafinil is a prescription nootropic drug that comes in both powder and capsules forms. The company behind this drug is Teva Pharmaceuticals, a well-known manufacturer of nootropics for countering sleep disorders based in Frazer, Pennsylvania. Their invention, modafinil, is widely used as a cognitive enhancer and several studies have found it can also be used to improve some elements of working memory. In addition, it is FDA approved for treating medical conditions like narcolepsy and sleep apnea.

Besides, the formula is free from peanuts, soybeans, wheat, fish, gluten, dairy and eggs as the main ingredient is Modafinil itself. Although it is safe with minimal side effects, it is not approved for children under the age of 17 years for any condition. Also, it is very expensive and should not be taken by people with skin allergies to prevent serious outbreaks.

How Does Modafinil Work?

This nootropic drug works by stimulating neural activity within the brain. It does this by increasing certain neurotransmitters such as dopamine, histamine, and norepinephrine which are responsible for improved wakefulness, memory, and focus. Dopamine neurotransmitter is responsible for elevating mood and regulating emotional responses in order to keep the brain in tune with itself. Norepinephrine, on the other hand, boosts energy levels and stimulates the body to keep your mind active and sharp. Additionally, studies suggest that high levels of histamine promote wakefulness in the body.

Does Modafinil Work For Everybody?

One major problem with Modafinil is that it seems to have no effects at all on some people, which is normal for a prescription drug. The funny thing is, there are many people that rave about how good it is. Here are a few scenarios where Modafinil may not work for you:

Reason 1: Poor Quality Modafinil

Buying Modafinil online is not always easy? Why do we say this? There are many vendors and some are not reputable or trustworthy. As such, you may end up buying a bad batch of the drug. And if this happens, rest assured you will not feel any effects and you could end up having to deal with harsh side effects. So, always do a thorough research to find a reliable and reputable Modafinil vendor before purchasing the drug.

Reason 2: Long-Term Usage

If you have used Modafinil in the past and it worked for you, it means you are responsive to the drug. However, taking the Modafinil for a very long term can cause high tolerance levels to the drug. As a result, if you try using it, you will likely find it is no longer working for you. In this scenario, the best approach is to cut back on the dosage or stop taking the drug for at least a week or a month. Taking a break from the drug is sure to bring your tolerance levels to normal.

Reason 3: Taking Small Dosages

Modafinil dosage is normally around 50mg for beginners and 200mg for those who are used to the drug. So, if you are only taking 100mg or less, chances are that you may not feel much effects. Often, you will need to experiment, tweak and adjust in terms of dosages as well as how you use the drug to know if it works for you or not. For instance, you can split a 300mg dosage of Modafinil into one 100mg dose and one 200mg dose to help boost its effects.

Pros and Cons

  • Boosts energy and wakefulness

  • It is not addictive or a stimulant
Cons
  • It is a bit expensive depending on where you buy
  • It is only available via a medical practitioner’s prescription
  • Has some minimal side effects if not taken as recommended
